Ihsan. What’s that?

Now we have gone over what Faith and Islam is but, what is Ihsan? It comes in the Hadith when Angel Jibril asked Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) “What is Ihsan?. His reply was: “To worship Allah as though you see him, if you cannot achieve this, then indeed he sees you.”(Al-Bukhari and Al-Muslim).

This is an encouragement for us Muslims to focus on submission to our Lord. Here’s a scenario for you: “You’ve accepted this challenge ,which has a HUGE reward in the end. In order to get that reward you must impress the one who is in charge of the reward.” Wouldn’t you want to do everything you can to achieve that goal?

The challenege: Islam; Reward: Paradise; Holder of the Reward: Allah;

And yes, Islam is a challenge. We must fight within ourselves. It can be challenging to with-hold ones anger, fight laziness, being motivated to learn the religion; etc.. As long as we are aware of who we are worshiping, why we are worshiping Him, and what is the outcome of that worship—Insh’a Allah (if god wills) it becomes easy upon an individual.

What is Islam?

In the previous post we covered “Faith in Islam”. So, what is Islam?

It is the religion which was sent with the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). When someone is upon the religion of Islam, we call them Muslims. The term Muslim means One who submits to One God. Just like faith and its pillars, Islam has its own pillars. When the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was asked the question by Angel Jibril (Gabriel): “What is Islam?”, his reply was;

  1. To worship Allah alone and no one else.
  2. To perform Salat (prayer, 5 times a day).
  3. To give Zakat (charity)
  4. To fast in the month of Ramadan.
  5. To perform Hajj (pilgrimage to mecca, if one has the means)

These are the 5 pillars of Islam in which every Muslim (male and female) must follow!

Top 6 Breast feeding essentials

When I found out I was having my first child I used to watch a lot of videos and read a ton of blogs about what I needed. If you are the type of person who is looking to stay on a certain budget (like me), check out these 5 items. They are my top most recommended items from Amazon that I had great experiences with.

  1. If you are going to breastfeed, I HIGHLY recommend the Haakaa silicone manual pump. If you are working or still attending college/university, this is a great addition to your LIFE! It is easy to use, gentle on your breasts, you can travel with it, and most importantly its proven to help build your milk supply.

2. Milk storage bags! If you are going to pump, you need somewhere to store the milk. I use the Lansinoh brand because if you decide to freeze the milk, its easy to store and defrost. Another thing is, they are BPA free! They can be used for milk, fresh frozen fruits and vegetables for you little one.

Storage bags:

3. Nursing pads, Nursing pads, Nursing PADS! Cant stress it enough how important these little discs are. Since I like to save money, I use the reusable pads instead of disposable. You can go through 3-5 disposable nursing pads in a day, that’s over 30 in a week! However, it is just a recommendation so here are the two types of pads that are ultimately my favorites.

4. One of the most uncomfortable experiences a breastfeeding mother can experience is—LEAKING in PUBLIC! Sometimes breast pads can overfill, move around, and feel uncomfortable. I used this milk catcher that allowed me to stay dry outside, collect VALUABLE milk that could’ve gone to waste in a pad, I felt comfortable, and its easy to use!

Milk catcher:

5. Being comfortable is one of my main go-to’s. Nursing bras are a MUST of breast feeding moms. You never know when your little one will need some milk! so You will need a bra that is easily accessible, COMFORTABLE, and good quality. Here are some options:

Pack of 2:

Pack of 5:

6. If you do happen to experience cracked, sore, and/or dry nipples–I recommend these two products. The Lansinoh Organic Nipple cream is very light; some women worry about applying creams on their nipples when they have to feed the baby. That’s why I recommend the organic kind.

Nipple cream:

Aquaphor can be used for both you and your little one. Here’s a scenario: “You are breastfeeding, wearing a nursing pad all day, using baby wipes to clean off dry milk off your breasts- these can cause dry skin which can lead to irritation.”

You want to be as comfortable as possible. Using aquaphor to moisturize your breast (not your nipple, you will use the cream) is super effective and you don’t have to worry about buying so many products.

Those are my 6 top recommended items for breastfeeding mothers. There are a ton of other products that can be purchased but not needed. If you add everything up, it comes out to about $90. The fact that these items can be used in the long term makes it worth the money. Instead of buying two or three items for $70-$90, you get 6!

Let me know in the comments if you have used any of these items in the past or will be using them in the future. Feedback is best!

My Dear Sisters

Allah has given us such a high status in Islam-which we are not even aware of!

  1. Daughters: Opens the door to Jannah for her father.

Prophet Muhammad said: “Whoever has three daughters, or three sisters, or two daughters, or two sisters and he keeps good company with them and fears Allah regarding them, then Paradise is for him.”

(Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1916)

2. Wife: Becomes half of the faith for her Husband

Prophet Muhammad said: “This world is but provisions, and there is no provision in this world better than a righteous wife.”

(Vol. 3, Book 9, Hadith 1855)

3. Mother: Comes first and the keys to Jannah (paradise) lies under her feet

Abu Huraira reported that a person said: “Allah’s Messenger, who amongst the people is most deserving of my good treatment? He said: Your mother, again your mother, again your mother, then your father, then your nearest relatives according to the order (of nearness).”

(Sahih Muslim 2548 b)

WE even have a whole surah (chapter) in the Quran, dedicated to US! Chapter: 4. An-Nissa (The Women). We must thank Allah for honoring us and giving us such high statuses.

Faith in Islam

What is faith in Islam? What do we believe in? These questions are asked by non-muslims, new muslims, and our children who watch us worship one God (Allah). So what do we tell them?

When the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was asked the question by Angel Jibril (Gabriel): “What is Faith?”, his reply was;

  1. To believe in Allah (God)
  2. Believe in his Angels
  3. Believe in his books.
  4. Believe in his Messengers.
  5. Believe in the Day of Resurrection (Judgement day)
  6. Believe in the Qadr (Decree, Gods will) The good and bad.

These are the 6 articles of faith which are essentials and one of the basics of being a Muslim.
